Students from Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan Team Up for Summer Camp

King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) hosted the "Asia Innovation Bridge Camp 2025" this summer (August 3 to 10), inviting students from partner universities in Taiwan and Japan to join the multi-national summer camp. National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) from Taiwan and Japan's Fukuoka Institute of Technology (FIT) together selected students for the event and a total of 36 students from the three countries formed mixed teams for an eight-day cross-national design challenge and cultural exchange. The teams were divided into Crab Group, Durian Group, and Homestay Tourism Group, fully showcasing local Thai culture and customs.

The "Asia Innovation Bridge Camp 2025" took place at KMITL's Chumphon Campus. The main mission involved teams venturing into local communities to conduct field research and propose creative solutions. The Crab Group visited a fishing village and proposed the "Crab Bank" concept, using artificial incubation technology to protect fishery resources. The Durian Group visited an orchard, experienced harvesting, and developed a brand logo and marketing plan to enhance the competitiveness of local fruit farmers. The Homestay Tourism Group designed for the tourism market, proposing an innovative plan of local students serving as tourism ambassadors to attract international young travelers. These three creative initiatives were the result of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaboration, helping the youth from the three countries experience teamwork and creative thinking, showcasing their respective strengths, and broadening their horizons.

In addition to the group tasks, this year's camp also arranged corporate and cultural visits in Bangkok, including the Bridgestone Thailand BSTMT factory to observe manufacturing standards in Thailand. Participants also visited Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) while wearing traditional Thai costumes, experiencing the historical atmosphere of the Thonburi Kingdom. This presented a distinct and interesting contrast in Bangkok, where skyscrapers stand side-by-side with ancient historical buildings, creating a blend of old and new.

NKUST actively creates international exchange opportunities for its students, allowing them to experience the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration and refine their skills through cross-cultural, multi-national teamwork. The "Asia Innovation Bridge Camp 2025" in Thailand was the first time NKUST participated in a trilateral camp with Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand. Furthermore, NKUST's Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship also operates the ICDC (International Capstone Design Camp & Contest), which is jointly hosted by universities from Taiwan, Japan, and Korea on a rotating basis. The ICDC, which has a 15-year history of cooperation, marks a significant international collaboration.
