Eco Pool in Duona Elementary School to Complete Soon by Corner Team

Release Date 2 September 2021     Mandarin

The “Humanitarianism Architecture - Corner Team (角映義築)” was formed by students and teachers of NKUST Construction Engineering Department (CE) six years ago to implement the Ministry of Education USR project. Since then, CE students and teachers have been working on transforming their knowledge into actual practices applied in remote villages.

For the past four years, they executed the Ministry of Education USR project, “Living in a Peach-Blossom Xanadu: A Resilient Township Transformation Project for Kaohsiung Mountain Areas (安居桃花源.港都山線韌性城鄉營建計畫).”

The project was built around the concept of “Environmental Sustainability – Disaster Prevention Education” to assist local schools in remote areas with their ecological pools. Their goal is to help local students understand sustainability in their daily life.

Construction Engineering Department Chair Lin, Chien-Liang recalled that CE completed an ecological pool in Maolin Junior High School (茂林國中) last year. That task was also aligned with the environmental sustainability of the Purple Crow Butterflies Restoration project.

This year CE carried on the same project in Maolin again. The team built an ecological pool in Duona Elementary School (多納國小) in Maolin District this year. The pool’s entrance was all made in wood and specially designed to fit in with the local surroundings, and this space is also for students to learn about aquatic plants.

By participating in this project, students learned to apply professional knowledge, improve their skills, and contribute to local villages. It’s a great learning experience for everyone.

“Students completed every step by themselves, from on-site investigation and site design to pool construction. By participating in this project, students learned to apply professional knowledge, improve their skills, and contribute to local villages. It’s a great learning experience for everyone.” says Chair Lin.

This USR project received funds from the Ministry of Education USR project and NKUST resources. NKUST CE alumni and local enterprises were also so supportive.

The chairman Tan, Ben-Rong (譚本榮) of Hua Jhou Construction Co., Ltd. (華洲營造), who is also NKUST alumni, invited a series of companies to lend their support for the development of local sustainability.

These companies include Hua Jhou Construction Co., Ltd. (華洲營造), Hoco Engineering & Commercial Co., Ltd. (華麒工程), Yu Huang Co., Ltd. (玉簧科技), Li Hong Ready Mixed Concrete Co., Ltd. (立竑預拌), Wei Da Construction Co., Ltd. (韋達營造), and Shun Fa Li Industrial Co., Ltd. (順發利實業).

Without their support, the NKUST Humanitarianism Architecture - Corner Team will not complete these tasks smoothly and successfully help local communities.
