On March 10, Kaohsiung City Government (KCG) held a donation ceremony with 3DFamily Smart Inspection Group Co.Ltd (3D Family) to present 42 Kaohsiung middle and high schools with 1,965 sets of VisLab software, the total value of these sets around USD$ 27.6 million. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen, Chi-Mai was invited to represent these schools to receive the donation and give 3D Family a certificate of gratitude for the company’s contribution.

 

Later, the plaque unveiling ceremony was held for the Kaohsiung VisLab AI Talent Development Center. The center formed by NKUST and 3DFamily aimed to develop a talent base for Artificial Intelligence (AI) education.

 

AI would be fundamental to the next generation of workers. To reduce a big gap between what students learned in school and what they do at work, 3DFamily gave away 1,965 sets of VisLab software to 33 high schools and 9 middle schools in Kaohsiung City.

 

On the other hand, 3DFamily cooperated with NKUST to establish the Kaohsiung VisLab AI Talent Development Center, hoping to train AI teachers and cultivate AI talents for local educational institutions and industries. This center would boost the spread of AI education and improve the competitiveness of Kaohsiung City.

 

In his opening speech, 3DFamily Chairman Hakiem Hsu noted that VisLab was a set of AI image recognition software, and it was easy to use for all users without any programming background. He hoped the center could equip NKUST faculty with AI education knowledge. Furthermore, NKUST teachers could help train more teachers to provide AI education in high schools, vocational high schools, and middle schools in the future.

President Yang added that if students of middle or elementary schools trained to have intrinsic knowledge of AI and learned to operate these systems, this learning path will become vital for their working life in the future.

 

Also, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen supported the establishment of the AI center for it would foster future AI education in the Kaohsiung primary and secondary education. He expected that the center would cultivate more high-tech professionals who acquired their skills locally, worked at local companies and became the mainstay across industries.

 

Mayor Chen has actively promoted a few technology industrial parks in the city, including Ciaotou Science and Technology Park, Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, Asia New Bay Area (亞洲新灣區), and 5G AIoT Innovation Park in Asia New Bay Area (5G AIoT創新園區). Chen added quest for tech talents would soar after new companies settled in. All these factors would push Kaohsiung to be a smart city soon.
